PENINSULA’S HISTORIC DISTRICT

The Peninsula Library and Historical Society hosted a visit from two employees, Megan Rupnik and Susan Tietz, of the Ohio Historical Society this spring. Earlier in the year documents had been sent to the Ohio Historical Society exploring the possible expansion of the current Peninsula Historic District. The Historic District was originally granted in 1974. The visitors were impressed with the work accomplished so far and were taken with the Village. They had several suggestions for ideas for the expansion of the Historic District. The one that will require the most work is to expand the dates of the Historic District to include the time period from 1887 to 1913. This time expansion would include all of the time that the Canal influenced the Village.

If you live in a house built prior to and including 1913 in the Village of Peninsula we would appreciate any information, pictures, news clippings etc. about your house or the people who inhabited it. Also if you have information from your relatives who have lived in any of the houses, we need it all. You can either drop by the Peninsula Library & Historical Society and they will scan, copy etc. the information, or you can call Barbara Gedeon 330 657 2503 and she will arrange a pick up and delivery service. The information will be incorporated into a formal request for Historic District Expansion and also a copy will be kept at the library, filed under street address. Thank you for your help.
