BOSTON TOWNSHIP

The township minutes are posted on our website at www.bostontownship.org and outside the fiscal office at the Boston Township Hall. Our meetings are covered by the Westside Leader.

Zoning Planning: As some may be aware, the township has contracted with Northstar Planning to conduct a thorough review of our Akron-Cleveland Road corridor, specifically the commercial properties in the JEDD with Cuyahoga Falls. With increased development to the north in Boston Heights and to the south in Stow and Cuyahoga Falls, we need to make sure that we understand our strengths and shortcomings and are able to plan for them to maximize opportunities to attract and retain businesses. A key part of this plan is coordinating the zoning of the business district with the residential neighborhood on the west side of Akron-Cleveland Rd. Mark Majewski, professional planner with Northstar Planning, will be attending the trustee meeting on October 12, 2016 at 6:30 pm to discuss some of his findings and to seek more input.

Summit County Land Bank: Boston Township has a few residentially-zoned properties where the structures have fallen into completely uninhabitable condition due to absentee owners or virtual abandonment. We have asked the Summit County Land Bank to look at these properties to see if they would qualify for one of their programs to remove the structures and return the properties to their appropriate use. The Land Bank will only consider residentially-zoned properties.

Mowing Program: Due to an early start to our mowing program (the weather permitted us to start in May this year) we have accomplished two complete mowings of township roads. The hot/dry month of August saw little growth of roadsides. With additional rains in September, we will be mowing the township roads one more time. After the mowing is complete, we will be preparing to vacuum leaves.

Mosquito Spraying Program: To better coordinate the spraying of mosquitoes with areas of homes and businesses in Boston Township, we encourage residents to call the Summit County Public Health District to have their properties added to the list for spraying. The number to call is (330) 926-5600. The coordinator of the mosquito program is Andrew Deacon.

Zoning Positions Available: We are looking for one member for our Zoning Commission and one alternate to the same board. Much important work will be before the Zoning Commission as they consider the results and suggestions of the zoning planning study being conducted by Northstar Planning. Please contact one of the trustees if you would like to discuss the role of the Zoning Commission members.
