PENINSULA COUNCIL

The Village of Peninsula Council met in regular session on April 10, 2017. Council changed slightly the job description for the full time Road Department Supervisor and wanted the job advertised again. If anyone is interested in applying for the position, please contact the Village or send a resume to the Fiscal Officer. The complete job description and position requirements can be found on the Village's website. The Council again discussed the purchase of a new truck for the Road Department, but delayed the decision until a future time until more information can be obtained. They also discussed the need for repair work on Stine Road. Brush pickup will be the first Monday of the month from May through October. Branches are to be no longer than twelve feet and are to be stacked in piles with the cut end facing the roadway. Refer to the Village web page for further information.

Dee Holody provided the following update on the Wastewater Initiative:
Good news on the horizon. On March 23, Senators Portman and Brown, along with other U.S Senators, introduced the Water Infrastructure Flexibility Act that would provide local communities with increased flexibility when complying with Clean Water Act requirements for updates to water infrastructure projects. The Village has approved a letter to our Senator expressing our support, "On behalf of the Village of Peninsula and other similar communities in Ohio that face challenges of implementing and financing these critically necessary infrastructures, we applaud your leadership and bipartisan efforts to introduce this important bill." This bill could be very important for our Village wastewater project as it is designed to help municipalities meet their water infrastructure investment challenges. Questions on the Village Wastewater project? Feel free to contact any one of us on the Village Core Team. Dee Holody-M: 216-346-8753; Mary Booth - H: 330-657-2244; Bill Clifton - H: 330-657-4032

Dee Holody reported the following on the Sandstone Sidewalk Replacement:
More good news! ODOT has agreed to fund the Village to replace our sandstone sidewalks that were removed during the Rt. 303 resurfacing project, and replaced with white concrete. A big thank you to the State Historic Preservation Office, ODOT Environmental, and the CVNP for their support in reaching a positive outcome for the Village. And thank you to the residents that have come forward with original Peninsula sandstone slabs to replace the 21 that were removed by ODOT. We still could use a few more so if you have any large slab stone sections that you are willing to part with please contact Mary Booth at 330-657-2244. We welcome donations of sandstone, but are prepared to discuss fair market reimbursement as well. We hope to complete this work and have our sandstone walks back in place by Rememberence Day!
