PENINSULA VILLAGE

Village Council met in an Electronic Meeting Format for the Regular Council Session Via Zoom Meeting April 12, 2021.

Council passed the March 8, 2021 Regular Council Meeting Minutes.

Mayor Schneider regretfully informed Council that Police Chief Joseph Varga turned in his resignation. The Chief will be retiring with his last day being May 28, 2021. The Mayor expressed kind words of appreciation to the Chief for his dedication to the community as well as the support he has given to him.

Council passed Resolution No. 03–2021 A Resolution Authorizing all Action Necessary to Accept Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) 2021 Energized Community Grant Funds. Council passed Ordinance No. 04–2021 An Ordinance Amending the Village Zoning Fee Schedule. Moving to third reading is Resolution No. 06–2021 A Resolution Authorizing the Mayor to Enter into an Agreement with PayByPhone Technologies, Inc. to Provide a Paid Parking System to the Village.

The Mayor would like to remind everyone the Village enacted Short–Term Rental and Short–Term Rental Tax Ordinances that became effective January 1, 2020. Those Ordinances require property owners that are renting their properties on a short–term basis to file a yearly application to obtain a Short–Term Rental Certificate prior to renting the property. In addition, the Short–Term Rental Tax Ordinance requires short–term rental property owners to collect a 3% tax from their renters and remit all taxes due to the Village on a quarterly basis. Failure to do so can subject the property owner to: conviction of a first–degree misdemeanor, a maximum fine of $1,000 per occurrence, up to 180 days in jail, and the assessment of interest and penalties in addition to any taxes due. If you are utilizing your property for short–term rentals, please remit a completed Short–Term Rental Certificate Application to the Village. Copies of the Village Short–Term Rental Regulations, Short–Term Rental Tax Ordinance, Short–Term Rental Certificate Application Form, and Short–Term Rental Quarterly Tax Remittal Forms can be found on the Village website under the ZONING tab.

Mayor Schneider reminds everyone brush pick–up starts the first Monday of May. Brush pickup will continue until the first Monday of October. If Monday is a holiday, it will be picked up on Tuesday. Brush only, cut ends to the road. No root balls or vines. This is for storm damage and minor property cleanup. NOT for major tree removal or clearing of property. There will be NO leaf pick–up until November.

Mayor Schneider also reminds everyone that if you are planning to remodel your home, new roof, install a fence or retaining wall you will need a building permit. Please call 330–657–2151 for more information.

Reminder to our residents, that it is your responsibility to keep your sidewalks, ditches, and driveway culverts clear.
