PENINSULA COUNCIL

The Village Council met in regular session on June 10, 2013. The meeting was preceded by a Public Hearing concerning the proposed JEDD agreement with Boston Township. Several residents were in attendance to hear about the details of the proposal. When the regular meeting commenced, Council then agreed to enter into the agreement. Council also agreed to renew the contract with Wichert Insurance for a renewal of the Village's property and liability insurance. The Mayor announced the resignation of Chuck Hemming as the Village Zoning Inspector. He hopes to have a candidate to replace him at the next meeting. He also reminded everyone of the change of dates for the Planning Commission meetings. Starting in July 2013, they will be on the third Monday of every month rather than the second Tuesday following the Council meetings. Council also approved to place an increase of the Village income tax on the November ballot. The Parking Station proposal was discussed in length with several of those in attendance, but no action was taken.

Brush pickup continues the first Monday of each month through October.

FOURTH OF JULY 2013

Two hundred thirty-seven years is the age of our great Republic. It is a nation of great diversity made up of people from all over the world. The ideal found in the pledge of allegiance animates the life of our unique great Nation. The words are simple and profound. They are “…with liberty and justice for all.” Whatever the mode of celebration chosen to mark our heritage, whether it is picnics, fireworks or parades, may it also include moments of reflection and affirmation of the ideal given to us in our pledge of allegiance to the Red, White and Blue. Is not the ideal of each citizen: liberty and justice bound together as our destiny? Is this not the hope of the past, the present, and the future of every citizen? Justice is the way to peace. Liberty is the basis of a freedom for every individual and their inalienable rights.

Father John Terzano

PENINSULA MIX

You saved your wood ash from the fireplace didn't you? So now you can add it to your garden or to various plantings, so they can benefit from that kind of soil enrichment. But be aware that coal and charcoal ash do not help your garden; they can harm. Only wood ash does. Mix it into the soil around your favorite plantings.

There is good news on the restoration front. Ronda Russell, proprietor of the Downtown Emporium, had a birthday recently which was celebrated by neighbors and friends who gave her a gift which was very dear to her. Instead of package gifts, they all gave toward the proposed slate roof on the old school house and reached the amount needed. The goal has been met and the new slate roof will soon be in place. Old slates will be available as souvenirs. . . .

Jordan Wessel, an accomplished pianist, will be graduating soon, and available to provide sing - along music for children's parties. Those of Polish heritage might be interested in a new shop in Richfield. It is on route 21, south of the village, at 2421 North Cleveland Massillon Rd. It features beautifully made folk pottery. Their phone number is 330-835-7151. A friend let me pick out a piece for my birthday, and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Available for adoption are three beautiful tiger-striped kittens at 5964 Center Street. They are weaned and ready for more T L C. and are returnable if it does not work out for you.
