A TIME FOR THANKS
The Trustees have much to be thankful for this past year and we will start with our Share-A-Christmas program and those who made it possible. For the past sixteen years, we have sponsored this event and as a Township, this is one of the best things we do.
A big thank you to Paul and Marsha Sergi for their most generous monetary donation. This is just one of the many ways in which the Sergis help our community. Thank you to two divisions at Allstate in Hudson. The Helping Hands Committee, under the direction of Natalie Kreptkowski, Lindsay Sobecki, and Michelle Pfaff, provided many wonderful gifts for the children. The Hudson Express Office, under the direction of Mike Martin, provided gift cards to many area stores. Helping others is a way of life for the good folks at Allstate. They volunteer year round at many area agencies. Thank you to the generous parishioners at Mother of Sorrows. Their Giving Tree provided many gifts. Peninsula United Methodist Church members provided much needed food, gloves, hats, scarves, and mittens. Under the direction of Mrs. Vineyard, the students of Woodridge High School provided non-perishable food items. Thank you to Terry Lumber and the Peninsula Library for once again allowing us to place drop off boxes for food. Thank you to all of the members of our community who so generously donated at these locations. Thanks also to Tony and Lida Flowers Brandt for their monetary donation. Last but not least thank you to our elves, Charlene Cooper, Gloria Ritch, and Linda Dyczkiewycz for helping pack all of the gifts and food and also to Valley Fire for their delivery services.
Thank you to Mike Mraz for his most generous donation that offset the cost of two radios for our road department. The radios will allow our road crew to have immediate contact with police, fire and rescue services.
Jerry, Randy and I are thankful to our residents for approving the new JEDD with Peninsula. We look forward to the positive changes this will bring in 2014.
Thanks to the Boston Heights Council for joining forces with Valley Fire allowing us for the first time to have full-time fire and rescue services for our community. Keep an eye out for the new rescue squad that was delivered earlier this month.
This is also a time of remembering those who have left us too soon. We are all thankful for the friendship of John Lahoski. Our community will always remember December 19, 2005.
Wishing you a happy and healthy 2014.

A NEW YEAR MESSAGE
When the mail delivers the December Issue of YCN or you access it online, with countless others, there will be the opportunity to ponder a year drawing quickly to a close and another about to be rung in. As the rush of the season for some winds down, for all it affords time to look to the future while reflecting on the happenings, personal or shared, of the months, weeks and days that are now but memories. What lessons were learned? What could have been but was not? What resolutions were made at the beginning of the year then new but now old? What will the new resolutions be for this year about to be named 2014? What was good? What could have been better? What should not have been? What needs to change? What can be changed? It is a time for reasoned resolutions. A caution is offered: better to resolve to renew a resolution undone before the year is days, weeks or months old. What will make 2014 a better year than 2013? Besides making and keeping reasoned resolutions: learn from yesterday, live today so that tomorrow will regard the todays as lessons well learned and life well lived.

CONDOLENCES
Former Township resident Robert W. Biro passed away October 27, 2013 at the age of sixty-seven. He was preceded in death by his parents Gays and Eleanor Biro and is survived by wife Judy and children Michael Williams, Jessica Wright, Amanda Keimer, and Joel Biro.
IT IS ALL IN A NAME
The names “Peninsula”, “Boston”, and “Valley” show up in many different ways and it is often confusing. We all frequent the Peninsula Library, but are you aware there are many components to the library? The Peninsula Library Foundation is an ongoing 501C-3 that is there to help make sure the library exists for future generations. There is also the Friends of the Library who provide book sales, the Bizarre Bazaar as well as many extras for library patrons. The Carole Wright fund provides children’s programming, Christmas Crafts and many opportunities for our young people. The Cuyahoga Valley Museum is also part of the Library and it is located in the old Boston Township School. This ever changing exhibit provides a look at our past and is a very worthwhile home for pictures you may have of our community. Copies could be made if you don’t want to part with an original. This museum, under the direction of Randy Bergdorf, will preserve our history for future generations.
The Robert Hunker Foundation has been renamed the Peninsula Foundation. This group is home to the GAR Hall and the Bronson Church as well as many other buildings that are rented out in Peninsula.
The Boston Township Hall Committee is another non-profit that manages the Boston Township Hall and old Boston Township School. While housing some offices it is also available to rent for special occasions. It is under their management that a new slate roof is being installed.
Last but not least would be our governmental entities of the Village of Peninsula and Boston Township. Neither is affiliated with the above mentioned groups with the exception of the lease agreement the township has with the hall committee.
THANK YOU
Thank you for making it possible for my mother, Lily Fleder to stay in her home and in her beloved town as long as she did. It is a credit to so many of you who still know what "community" means.
Lily is doing well at Friends Care Community, very close to my home. Though she misses Peninsula and her friends very much, she is safe and in good spirits.
She loves getting letters. Her address is:
Lily Fleder
170 E Herman St. #23
Yellow Springs, Ohio 45387
It takes a village to help elders through their transitions.
Thank you so much.
