DECEMBER 2016 VOLUME 34 NUMBER 1

BOSTON TOWNSHIP

The township minutes are posted on our website at www.bostontownship.org and outside the fiscal office at the Boston Township Hall. Trustee meetings are the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Zoning commission meets the second Tuesday of the month and the Board of Zoning Appeals meets the fourth Wednesday of the month.

WOODRIDGE CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS: Members of the boys` and girls` Woodridge Cross Country teams attended the December 14 meeting of the township trustees. In a joint recognition by the trustees and Peninsula Village Council, the team members and the coaching staff were recognized for their winning of the state championship. Also recognized at the event was Charlene Cooper for her twenty plus years of supporting the teams through the production of t-shirts and fundraising.

ZONING INSPECTOR CELL PHONE: The township has supplied Zoning Inspector Doug Mayer with a cell phone so that he can receive calls when he is out of the zoning office. Residents can call either the zoning office (330-657-2601) or the zoning cell phone (234-900-9145). Doug can be reached at bostontwpzoning@windstream.net as well.

COMMUNITY BAZAAR: Thank you to all who participated in our Community Bazaar on December 3. There was a record number of booths and shoppers! The event resulted in a collection of $588 which will be turned over to the Boston Township Hall Committee to assist them in their continuing efforts to keep the historic hall restored and maintained.

ED PULLEKINS TO BE RECOGNIZED: Ed Pullekins began as Boston Township Solicitor on January 1, 1982 and has continued in that capacity to this day. As of December 31, Ed will have completed 35 years of service to Boston Township, the Valley Fire District and many other local groups. At 35 years, Ed has served Boston Township longer than any other individual. The trustees will be recognizing Ed with an open house to be held before their January 11, 2017 meeting. Please come to congratulate Ed on this milestone achievement. We will begin at 6:30 pm in the trustees` meeting room.

SALT CONTRACT RENEWED: At the meeting held on November 23, the trustees voted to renew the salt contract with Peninsula Village. This contract authorizes the township to sell salt to the village for the upcoming year.

Food Drive: Thank you to all who donated food, gifts certificates and presents to the efforts this year. Almost 50 families will be receiving assistance this year. This effort could not succeed without the generosity of many groups and individuals.

ZONING POSITIONS AVAILABLE: We are looking for one member for our Zoning Commission and one alternate to the same board. Zoning Commission members meet once a month to analyze the zoning ordinance for any updates or modifications, review changes in zoning laws that might impact the zoning ordinance, and provide guidance to the Board of Zoning Appeals regarding appeals to the zoning ordinance. Please contact one of the trustees if you would like to discuss serving on the Zoning Commission.

REMEMBERING: John Lahoski: December 19, 2005.

SHARE - A - CHRISTMAS THANKS

Our thanks to the community for helping with this wonderful event.

Much gratitude to the following for monetary donations: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sergi, Elements Gallery, Lida and Tony Brandt, Jim Christ and Western Reserve Racing, and the Woodridge High School Student Government.

The employees of the Conservancy for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park donated food. Johnna Vineyard and the Woodridge High School students provided canned goods.

We were again able to provide bags of soaps, personal items and paper products for each family. Our thanks to the members of the Peninsula United Methodist Church for making this possible. We received an overwhelming amount of soaps, body washes, and tooth brushes and tooth paste. Members of PUM also provided gloves, hats, scarves (many handmade) and a monetary donation. Your generosity is overwhelming. Thank you to Charlene Cooper for her assistance in coordinating these efforts.

Thank you to the members of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church for their giving tree items and food and non-perishables. There were many gift cards as well. Each year we have been fortunate to receive many wonderful gifts from their parishioners. Thank you to Terry Lumber and the Peninsula Library for once again allowing us to place drop off boxes for food. Thank you to all of the members of our community who so generously donated at these locations. Thank you to Rona Adams and Doug Mayer for all of their assistance. Last but not least, thank you to our elves, Paul Kaczmarski and his lovely daughter, Hannah, Charlene Cooper, Gloria Ritch, Tom Germain, Jackie and Tim Heffernan, and Tanner Anderson for helping pack all of the gifts and food. As always a big thank you to the members of Valley Fire and Rescue for their delivery services.

As a township, Share-A-Christmas is the best thing we do. We are so grateful to all who helped us make this possible.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 2017.

Amy Anderson, Jerry Ritch and Randy Bergdorf

COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Community News thanks Boston Township Zoning Board members Mike Anderson, Todd Liebenauer, Pam Schneider, who is also Clerk and Secretary of the board. We also thank Lida Flowers Brandt, who preceded Pam. We also thank trustee Randy Bergdorf, solicitor Ed Pullekins, and zoning inspector Doug Mayer, who were in attendance at all or most of our meetings.

You all contributed much time, and made many contributions to a successful year, and our township is indebted to you.

Marty Griffith

COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

Our second Christmas Bazaar was very successful and $588.00 will be turned over to the Boston Township Hall Committee for the continued maintenance of the Boston Township Hall. We had four rooms of vendors this year, many were residents or former residents.

Thank you to Carolyn Birchenall of Fine Art Services, Anne Matusz at the Peninsula Library, and Lynn Dowling at Yellow Creek Trading for help with publicity. Ron Adams and Doug Mayer helped vendors load and unload merchandise and Doug designed the most hilarious and appropriate sign announcing the bazaar. Many thanks to my daughter, Gretchen Gallimore and daughter-in-law, Franca Hendryx for devoting the entire day to whatever needed done. Thank you to my husband, Tom Germain, who sold raffle tickets all day. Special thanks to my trustee counterparts, Jerry Ritch and Randy Bergdorf who assisted in set up, take down, and clean up after the bazaar was over.

We are penciled in next year and hope to see you on December 2, 2017.

Amy Anderson, Boston Township Trustee
