DECEMBER 2017 VOLUME 35 NUMBER 1

BOSTON TOWNSHIP

The township minutes are posted on our website at www.bostontownship.org and outside the fiscal office at the Boston Township Hall. Trustee meetings are the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Zoning commission meets the second Tuesday of the month and the Board of Zoning Appeals meets the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Thank you, Jerry Ritch!: Trustees Amy Anderson and Randy Bergdorf would like to thank Jerry Ritch for his twelve years of service to the township as a trustee. We greatly appreciated the opportunity to work with him and wish him the best in the future.

Road Department: The trustees thanked Road Superintendent Ron Adams for his handling of the season`s first snow event. Special mention was also extended to the Peninsula Village Road Department for much appreciated assistance.

Zoning Updates: The Zoning Commission continues to work with Mark Majewski of Northstar Planning regarding text amendments to the Business Corridor. Currently under discussion are changes to the zoning text regarding properties in the area of Seasons Road. In order to give applicant EBS Construction, LLC more time to properly prepare a site plan regarding the property at 5079 Akron-Cleveland Road, the BZA issued a continuance until the January 23, 2018 meeting. At a hearing held on November 28, the trustees voted to approve two minor changes to the township`s zoning ordinance. The township is in the process of reviewing the chart of zoning fees. Comparisons are being made to surrounding communities. The trustees are still looking for one alternate person for each of the two zoning boards. In addition to helping to provide a quorum, the alternates can gain knowledge of the zoning process in preparation for a full appointment should an opening arise. If anyone is interested in discussing a position as an alternate to one of the zoning boards, please contact one of the trustees.

Trash Contract: The trustees did not receive any bids for the trash contract, which is set to expire at the end of January. The bidding process will be repeated with legal ads in The Plain Dealer.

Opioid Lawsuit: The trustees voted to be named additional plaintiffs in the suit brought by Summit County against certain opioid manufacturers.

Mini Tree Thank You: For the third year, the trustees have sponsored a mini tree in the display held at the Peninsula Library. This year`s theme, "A Nightmare Before Christmas," was greatly enhanced by the artistic efforts of Melissa Mitchell who hand-painted the ornaments.

REMEMBERING: John Lahoski: December 19, 2005.

SHARE-A-CHRISTMAS THANKS

For twenty years the Boston Township trustees have sponsored Share-A-Christmas. We would like to thank our community for making it possible to help so many of our residents. Much gratitude to the following for monetary donations: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sergi, Michael and Liz Matusz, Anne Matusz, Tinka and Dave Short, Melissa and Charles Mcglone Farone, Bob and Shoshana Wodzisz, Elements Gallery, and the Woodridge High School Student Government.

The following provided food donations: Dan and Janice Schneider, Gretchen Gallimore, the employees of the Conservancy for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Johnna Vineyard and the Woodridge High School students, Mike Zorena and the Saint Vincent DePaul Akron chapter, and the Peninsula Police Department.

We were again able to provide bags of soaps, personal items and paper products for each family. Our thanks to the members of the Peninsula United Methodist Church for making this possible. We received an overwhelming amount of soaps, body washes, and tooth brushes and tooth paste. Members of PUM also provided gloves, hats, scarves (many handmade) and a monetary donation. Your generosity is overwhelming. Thank you to Charlene Cooper for coordinating this effort. Thank you to the members of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church for their giving tree items and food and non-perishables. There were an unbelievable number of gift cards as well. Each year we have been fortunate to receive many wonderful gifts from their parishioners. Thank you to Terry Lumber and the Peninsula Library for once again allowing us to place drop off boxes for food. Thank you to all of the members of our community who so generously donated at these locations. The Acme in Hudson went above and beyond to help. Their assistance is greatly appreciated. Last but not least, thank you to Charlene Cooper, Gloria Ritch, Diane Hach, Cathy Anson, and Tom Germain for helping pack all of the gifts and food. As always a big thank you to the members of Valley Fire and Rescue for their delivery services.

As a township, Share-A-Christmas is the best thing we do. We are so grateful to all who helped us make this possible.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 2018.

Amy Anderson, Jerry Ritch and Randy Bergdorf

To the Editors:

I`d like to thank Danny Schneider for negotiation with our trash company to give seniors a discount on their trash bills! As a senior, living alone — I found myself paying for weekly trash pick-up when in reality I only had enough trash to put out every two weeks. I did call the trash company and requested an every two week pickup but they refused stating "that was not part of Peninsula`s contract." I called the Schneiders and explained the problem, hoping they could help out with getting a break for those of us on a fixed income. Lo and behold the new trash contract includes a senior citizen discount! Thanks so much Danny! The Township should also get this benefit in their trash contract.

Theresa Cassidy Reinbolt

Editor`s note: For many years the township contract has included a bag option for those not needing unlimited service. This cost is discounted.
