A Christmas Wish (aka The Great Rupert)
(20th Century, 1950, 88 minutes, Irving Pichel)
In the waning days of vaudeville, Joe Mahoney, having lost his home, releases Rupert, his dancing squirrel, in the town park. A band of acrobats headed by Louie Amendola (Jimmy Durante) then rents Mahoney`s former apartment from the Dingle family. Realizing money from a long-forgotten gold mine investment, Mr. Dingle cashes the checks and stows the money in a hole in the wall. Unbeknownst to all, Rupert moved back into the attic of the apartment only to find it stuffed with cash. Every time Dingle shoves money into the hole, Rupert throws it out of his house and into the Amendola`s apartment. Pretty soon the Internal Revenue Service begins to investigate the source of all this cash.
