As we express our gratitude,
we must never forget
that the highest appreciation
is not to utter words,
but to live by them.

BOSTON TOWNSHIP

The township minutes are posted on our website at www.bostontownship.org and outside the fiscal office at the Boston Township Hall. . Meetings are covered by the West Side Leader. Trustee meetings are the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Zoning commission meets the second Tuesday of the month and the Board of Zoning Appeals meets the fourth Tuesday of the month.

Police Levy: Thank you to all those who voted on November 3 Issue #31, to renew the township`s police levy, passed with 262 "yes" to 130 "no" votes. A renewal levy brings in the same amount of money for the township that the expiring levy generated and will not raise property taxes. The 7–mill, 5–year levy will generate $150,508 per year. For the owner of a home appraised at $100,000, the cost of the levy will be $211.92 per year.

Road Department: Leaf vacuuming will continue through December 15, weather permitting. Please do not place your leaves on the road, but pile them near the roadside allowing room for our machinery to operate safely. Please pile leaves away from signs, mailbox posts and ditches.

Part–time Help: The township is looking for part–time help with the Road Department in the near future. In order to be prepared, we are asking anyone with an interest to contact Road Superintendent Dave Krusinski at (330) 657–2600. We are not seeking resumes at this time, but Dave will be able to answer questions about what the position will entail.

BTHC Lease Renewed: During the month of October, both the township trustees and the Boston Township Hall Committee, Inc. voted to approve a new 25–year lease for the former school part of the township buildings. Over the course of the last lease, the township and BTHC worked together to restore the buildings with BTHC managing the day–to–day operations.

Parking Violations Bureau: The township voted to create a Parking Violations Bureau. This allows for the township to keep all parking fines in the future. Current practice has the township only getting half of the fines collected.

CARES Funding: The township received Covid–19 funds through the CARES Act which helps the community mitigate the costs of the pandemic and its impact. The township funds can also be sub–granted to other agencies and non–profits in the community. The township should be able to provide funds to the Valley Fire District, the Peninsula Police Department, the Boston Township Hall Committee and the Woodridge Recreation Association to help them with their COVID–19–related expenses and impacts.

LEDs Installed in Road Garage: Utilizing a grant from NOPEC, the township upgraded the lighting in the road garage to LEDs. Besides providing brighter lighting in the road garage, the LEDs will lower the township`s electric bill.

TREE LIGHTING AND REINDEER DAY CANCELLED

Because of COVID–19 and the mandate prohibiting mass gatherings, it is with regret that the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce must cancel the Tree Lighting on the Bronson Green scheduled for December 3 and the Reindeer Day scheduled for December 5. It is so important that all residents stay safe and healthy during these precarious times, and the Chamber must follow the directive from the Summit County Health Department that the Mayor received.

There will still be a tree on the Bronson Green with luminaries, provided by Channah and Lee Spencer, around the tree.

Lights have a magical quality that help brighten our spirits.

Knowing this, we urge residents to participate in the Door Decorating Contest. The guidelines are in another article in this paper. The prize basket is wonderful! The doors will still be judged in the evening of December 3. And you do not need to be at your home for this to happen. Just leave lights on.

As folks drive thru the village or residents take a night walk, they will appreciate the decorations.

Various businesses will have special displays and offerings during December. Please visit their websites for hours and other information.

OUR SINCERE THANKS

In October the Peninsula Home & Garden Club reached out to the community for donations to support our year–long work of decorating the Peninsula downtown bridge and to help fund a new signpost. It is humbling how many donations we received, but more meaningful are the many notes and cards that were sent with the checks expressing their own thanks and appreciation for the bridge flowers and decorations.

Thank you so much to all of you who contributed to the Garden Club, for a total of $1145!!

Your donations have already been put to good use! Our new post, and a refurbish of the original Memorial Flowers sign, has been completed and erected. A big thank you to Charlie Moyer who built the signpost and Rocky Pritchard and his crew for the install. The sign is much more visible now with a more fitting post, and more vibrant colors…so look for it at the SE corner of the bridge!

Wishing you all a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

A TIME OF REMEMBERING AND SHARING

With Thanksgiving comes a time of remembering and sharing collectively and individually. We remember our roots as a nation. We remember family and individuals seeking a better life and freedom from oppression. A story repeated by each new wave of pilgrims. There were struggles, failures and successes. Today it is the same. The year 2020 a year like no other, is quickly closing and the New Year 2021 will soon dawn with hopes and dreams to become new memories. In between the old and the new, there is remembering of this past year, our part in it, a remembering in the midst of cultural and faith traditions. In the midst of this is the sense to give back and share. May these thoughts be our guide as we are encouraged to assist the many in need. May our prayer this Thanksgiving be made with an awareness that the gifts of love of the Almighty are countless, and so that filled with gratitude for such overwhelming kindness, our hearts are moved to share these gifts in loving service for every man, women, and child.

You are invited to Thanksgiving Day Mass at Mother of Sorrows at 8:30AM and on YouTube

Father John Terzano

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

That phrase probably conjures up some good memories for most of us. Well mostly good, unless we are thinking about Uncle _____ (you fill it in) who dresses funny and is loud and obnoxious!

But this is 2020 and it`s turning out that nothing is ordinary about this year. For the most part it has been focused on our physical health with respect to COVID, but truly we need at least four other parts for healthy living; mental health, spiritual health, emotional health & financial health. Sadly, the statistics for depression, addition, suicide are all up, which indicates a neglect in some way of the other four parts.

We sometimes need a reminder that we were created for relationships, relationship with God first and then with others whom God puts in our path in some way.

I would suggest for this Thanksgiving Day we set aside our slightly self–righteous thinking and actions, instead use that energy to think about individuals that we know are either hurting, confused, isolated, neglected or we just haven`t spoken to in a while and how we can be creative and connect with them or at least try to connect with them. Maybe you can only do it for one person or for a short period of time but please take the first step. And you just might find that you needed to connect with others and God also.
My prayer for all of you is that you are able to celebrate in some way with your families, however creative that looks. We really do need God and each other. Have a blessed Thanksgiving. Ray Hach
